Singapore University of Technology and Design.


The Singapore University of Technology and Design (Abbreviation: SUTD) will be Singapore's fourth autonomous university. It is developed in collaboration with Massachusetts Institute of Technology and Zhejiang University. SUTD's mission is to advance knowledge and nurture technically grounded leaders and innovators serve societal needs. This will be accomplished with a focus on Design, through an integrated multi-disciplinary curriculum and multi-disciplinary research. It will be the only university to be located in the eastern part of Singapore, at Changi. The university is expected to open its doors in April 2012, with its campus constructed by 2015 that is located next to the Upper Changi MRT Station which will be operational in 2018. The founding president is Thomas L. Magnanti, who is an Institute Professor with the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT).SUTD provides a common curriculum for all students in the freshman year and first half of the sophomore year, providing a firm foundation ground in science, technology, and design. After which, students can specialise in their areas of focus.
A 2-year Dual MIT-SUTD Masters’ Degree Programme will be offered by talented graduates with a keen interest in research in one of the following areas: Civil and Environmental Engineering; Supply Chain Management Programme; Master of Engineering in Manufacturing.SUTD with the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) will be launching joint postgraduate programmes to jump-start research at SUTD. The initial intake will be 10 post-doctoral researchers. Post-doctorate students will spend one year at MIT and then another year at SUTD where they will be researching and also teaching.An International Design Centre will be established at SUTD. It's main aim is to become the world's premier hub for technology-intensive design, focusing on three aspects. The aspects are sustainable city, information and communication-intensive devices for better living and engineering for the developing world.
It is part of a collaboration agreement between SUTD and MIT.SUTD admits students based on academic and non-academic qualifications. Applicants must possess one of the following academic qualifications: GCE Advanced Level certificate, Polytechnic diploma, International Baccalaureate diploma, NUS High School diploma or SAT and TOEFL (for international applicants).
In addition, applicants will have to submit a 500 words personal statement, go through an interview, have one letter of recommendation from teacher and possess good Co-curricular activities records.The interim campus for Singapore University of Technology and Design is at Dover, Singapore. SUTD's permanent campus, to be located in Changi, will be ready in 2018.
