The newlywed actress — who won a Golden Globe for her role as Betty Suarez, the proverbial “Geeky Girl From Queens,” on the now defunct dramedy — will step into the scheming shoes of the murderous Roxie when Chicago kicks off its West End run next month. America begins an eight week run engagement in the show on Nov. 17, according to show producers.
It will be the first appearance on the British stage for the former TV star. Ferrera is the latest celebrity to take over the character of the femme fatale, following Destiny’s Child singer Michelle Williams and pop star Ashlee Simpson. Renee Zellweger won an Oscar for her portrayal of Roxie in the 2002 movie adaptation of the musical.
