Singaporean killed in India fishing trip tragedy.


A Singaporean has died after the boat he was on capsized in India.


32-year-old Yong Kian Fei is believed to have been found floating unconscious near Agatti Island, about 450km off Kerala's western coast.The New Paper reported that Mr Yong was on a fishing trip with his friend, 32-year-old Desmond Ho Wee Kiat, on Monday when their vessel was hit by heavy waves and capsized at about 1.30pm.


The duo, together with the boat owner and another local, were thrown overboard.
Mr Ho suffered minor injuries. Mr Yong is believed to have hit his head when the boat capsized.
An Agatti Island spokesperson told The New Paper that the three men who were able to swim then pulled Mr Yong to the overturned boat and clung onto its sides while holding him.
The boat owner tried to help him, but they were unsure whether he was still alive.
Thereafter, the boat owner and the other local man tried to reach help by swimming towards Bangaram Island, about 8km from Agatti Island, after securing the wreckage to a rock.
The New Paper said they swam for an hour before they were spotted and picked up by a fishing boat.
The fishing boat dropped them off at the Agatti Island jetty at around 5.30pm.
Mr Yong was pronounced dead by doctors at a nearby hospital. His body was kept in a temporary mortuary at the hospital. Mr Ho was warded.
