MTV O Music Awards To Livestream World’s Longest Dance Party

MTV will set out to break the Guinness record for the world’s largest dance party at next week’s second annual O Music Awards (OMAs) — an annual prizegiving that celebrates advances in digital music.

The current record for longest dance party was set by Unique Events Limited in Ireland back in Oct. 2006. It began with 40 dancers and ended with 31 still standing after 55 hours. In an attempt to trump the record, MTV will livestream a 55-hour dance party as part of the second O Music Awards. The party will begin Oct. 29 at the Roxy Theatre on the Sunset Strip. and run into the OMAs on Oct. 31.

The livestream will also promote awareness for LGBT youth issues, especially bullying, by urging viewers to make donations to several organizations. Among the groups that will benefit from the record attempt are: GLSEN (the Gay, Lesbian & Straight Education Network), It Gets Better, the Gay Straight Alliance Network (GSA), Human Rights Campaign (HRC) and GLAAD (Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation).
