Detroit Tigers.


The Detroit Tigers are a Major League Baseball team located in Detroit, Michigan. One of the American League's eight charter franchises, the club was founded in Detroit in 1894 as part of the Western League. The Tigers have won four World Series championships (1935, 1945, 1968 and 1984) and have won the American League pennant 10 times. The team currently plays their home games at Comerica Park in Downtown Detroit.Detroit's first major league entry was the Detroit Wolverines, a member of the National League from 1881 through 1888. The nickname, now associated with the University of Michigan, came from Michigan's nickname, The Wolverine State.On May 7th, 2011, Justin Verlander took a perfect game against the Toronto Blue Jays into the 8th inning, and after a walk to J.P. Arencibia, Verlander got his double play and went on to the 9th inning to complete his 2nd career no-hitter. It was the 7th no-hitter in Tigers history. He faced the minimum 27 batters and recorded 4 strikeouts with 1 walk and a pitch count of 108. In his next start, Justin went 5 and 2/3 against the Kansas City Royals before surrendering his first hit, bringing his consecutive innings without a hit to a total of 15 2/3.Members of the 2011 Tigers won multiple statistical awards in 2011. Justin Verlander won the triple crown of pitching, leading the American League in wins (24), ERA (2.40) and strikeouts (250). Jose Valverde was the AL saves leader with 49 (in 49 save opportunities). Miguel Cabrera won the AL batting title with a .344 average.
On October 6, the Tigers beat the New York Yankees 3-2 in Game 5 of the ALDS, winning the series 3–2, and advancing to the ALCS, where they will play the Texas Rangers.
