The two stars were in Grozny, Chechnya on October 5 to celebrate Chechen Republic president Ramzan Kadyrov’s 35th birthday party.
The problem is that Kadyrov, according to the Human Rights Foundation (HRF), abuses the rights of his citizenry, and the organization claims it warned those stars and others to steer clear of the birthday bash.
Nevertheless, Jean-Claude Van Damme stood onstage at the party and said, “I love you Mr. Kadyrov.” And Swank similarly noted how glad she was to be in Grozny and wished him a “Happy Birthday.
